One Room School House - Sheridan County School District 100

From going to school in a one room school house to a Professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Ken Messersmith is using his experience in his early education in an online class, "Technology Tools for Teachers". As stated by Professor Messersmith, "The main objective of my online class is to explore technology and how various tech tools can be used to connect teachers and students to others who can help them to learn. In the day of the District 100 school building, the teacher was the main source of knowledge and the goal of the school was to transfer that knowledge from the teacher to the student. The teacher is no longer the main source of knowledge for students today. Technology tools allow students to have access to knowledge around the clock and from an almost infinite number of sources. This allows education today to be more customized to the interests and abilities of each student. Technology allows teachers to change their role from being "the sage on the stage" to being "the guide on the side." It also allows the student to take more complete ownership of their learning".

Currently the Sheridan County School District 100 building has been laid on its permanent foundation at Dobby's Frontier Town and restoration of the building is expected to begin soon.

Fall Festival is Here!

Join us for the Fall Festival at Dobby's Frontier Town on Saturday Sept. 24th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday Sept. 25th from Noon to 6pm. There will be lots of fun activities and great entertainment.

Due to the outstanding volunteer work taking place at Dobby's Frontier Town it was honored with an award for Tourism Promotion and Development during the 47th Annual Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) awards banquet.

Also congratulations to Sydney Swanson and the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center.
